Case Study: Creating a special solution for children aged between 5 and 18.

In 2010, ADHD Solutions CIC received funding to install play equipment at St Gabriel’s Community Centre in Leicester. It would be especially for the children with ADHD who visited the centre.

“We wanted something that was good for our children with ADHD, something that was challenging for them...and very varied,” said Director, Christine Jarvis. The children were aged between 5 and 18 years and ADHD Solutions knew that, with such a wide age range, there would be a massive difference in the children’s expectations. However, Red Monkey rose to the task…

A bespoke solution that impressed
A member of the team had been impressed with a Red Monkey installation she’d seen at a nursery, so the organisation decided to include Red Monkey in the companies they spoke to.

With the funding budget to work to, the team at ADHD Solutions were keen to make sure they made the most of their money, and they were impressed with the cost effective, bespoke solution that Red Monkey came up with after a meeting at the Centre. “Richard went away and thought about it. He put the effort in and made it work for us,” said Christine.

They felt the Red Monkey solution gave them value for money and fulfilled the brief better.  “They came up with an idea that the children wouldn’t get bored with, that was very varied and challenging.” Christine was also impressed with how they suggested ideas that weren’t in the brief.

Ideal for a wide age range
The solution was based on an assault course and included rope climbers, zip lines, climbing walls, bespoke climbing net crawlers and more.

Christine said: “We were really, really pleased with it.” She was also very impressed with the surface, which was a bark effect in green and brown. “I think the actual flooring is amazing. It’s so different.”

A personal service
Red Monkey offered the more 1:1 service that the organisation was looking for, including face-to-face meetings before the installation took place, plus a flexibility in their approach. Christine commented: “They had as much time as we needed really.”

Very pleased with what the Red Monkey team provided, Christine said: “If someone asked me if I’d recommend them, yes I would.”
