Case Study: Answering two needs with one solution
February 2011
Little Angels wanted to achieve two things with their new play equipment: to provide more play equipment to exercise children’s growth motor skills and to create a separate playground for babies and toddlers. “We really wanted to maximise our outdoor play areas,” said owner Bridget Crane.
A recommendation from a satisfied customer
Red Monkey were recommended to her by another nursery owner, so Bridget arranged a meeting with them, as she had done with a number of other suppliers, to talk through what she was looking for. Bridget said: “The drawings and the interpretation we got from Red Monkey were just brilliant…Richard interpreted what I wanted and made it real.”
A total solution
Red Monkey produced a complete solution for Little Angels Day Nursery. In creating the new playground for the babies and toddlers, they did everything that was needed, from putting up the fencing to working out the measurements for the pathways, as well as installing the play equipment. This playground included: grass, a safety surface, pebble resin flooring, balancing equipment, planters and a covered gazebo with a sandpit.
Even snow didn’t stop them
Bridget found Red Monkey easy to work with. She said: “I was really pleased. They were really professional and just got on with it. They even started initially when it was snowing and worked weekends to fit it with our timescales…they weren’t intrusive and they put in a full day’s work to get it done.”
The play equipment for the older children featured a stunning row of shops on two levels. Bridget said: “They even did one as a music room.” The installation included a buddy shelter, a post office, a secret passage, a storage shed, lookout windows, climbing ropes and bridges on the upper level and more.
The wow factor
She felt she wouldn’t have been able to come up with all of the features that Red Monkey suggested, but when she saw them, she knew they were just what she wanted. In fact, she said about the play equipment: “It’s got the wow factor.” She’s found this useful when new parents come – it makes a difference, and the children want to go on it straightaway.
When it comes to the children already at the nursery, Bridget said: “[They] absolutely love it. We can go out when it’s wet. They love all of it.”
Bridget was very impressed with Red Monkey, and commented: “We would definitely use them again.”
