Bringing the beach to Leicester

Red Monkey Play have just completed one of their more challenging and unusual jobs during 2011.

An existing customer was so delighted with the outdoor wooden play area already installed by Red Monkey Play that they decided that they wanted to add to it. Having constructed a substantial wooden play area for King Richard’s Road School, the school decided that they wanted to bring additional adventure and fun to the pupils, helping them to develop creative and interactive play.

With Leicester being almost as far as you can get from the beach in the UK, the school wanted a totally different play area for their children to enjoy; as it is very difficult to take the children to the beach, they bought the beach to their school in Leicester! School representatives met with the Red Monkey Play project manager Richard Tate, they shared their idea for a “seaside” play area theme and wanted it building from wood with a multi-use decking area and also wanted additional storage space.

Along with Red Monkey Play designer Tom Battey, they developed a concept of bright, strongly coloured beach huts bringing a seaside theme, with the beach huts also providing a substantial storage area. To add to the seaside theme, a large covered sandpit was incorporated in the design and to top it off they incorporated a brightly coloured wooden wind break. The installation is both practical and visually appealing; parents, staff and children have been absolutely delighted with the design and installation.

The completed installation can be seen in the picture above. Richard Tate, Project Manager said: “We worked closely with the school and pupils to design and create a wooden play area that would provide fun in play and creative learning. During this year we have developed our products and as can be seen with this work we have established ourselves as a leading UK designer, manufacturer and installer of bespoke wooden outdoor play areas and equipment”.
